Philippe Jaccard, born in 1957 in Geneva, is an outsider artist in the literal sense: he does not belong to any artistic community. While working as a police officer in Geneva, he would sometimes leave his post to go painting. Suffering from severe depression, the Swiss administration declared him permanently unfit for work at the age of 35, allowing him to devote himself entirely to his passion: painting. In 45 years of painting, Philippe Jaccard has produced over a thousand oil paintings on canvas and several thousand oil paintings on paper, almost none of which have ever been exhibited. There is almost nothing about Philippe Jaccard on the web. He doesn’t have a computer and doesn’t use social media. His work belongs to the always surprising and fascinating family of great outsiders. A revelation.
