On the occasion of Rendez-vous Brussels Art Week, Galerie de la Béraudière invites Virginie Devillez Fine Art to present the exhibition From Armand Rassenfosse to Marcel Broodthaers.

The exhibition will highlight a rare work by Marcel Broodthaers (1924–1976), Culture Internationale, Lucky Luciano (1974), as a conceptual and literary take on the fascination of Pop artists—particularly Andy Warhol, with his Most Wanted Men series—for gangsters.

Marcel Broodthaers also had a deep interest in literature, having begun his career as a poet, writer, and critic. Exploring the labyrinth between word, image, and thought, he continuously deconstructed the texts of his favorite authors (Stéphane Mallarmé, Charles Baudelaire, Isidore Ducasse, known as Lautréamont) and re-presented them within a shifted, unconventional space.

Exhibiting him alongside Armand Rassenfosse (1862–1934) is therefore far from incidental, as Rassenfosse produced a significantnumber of illustrations for 19th-century authors, most notably for Les Fleurs du Mal by Charles Baudelaire and Les Diaboliques by Barbey d’Aurevilly.
