Vivien Roubaud
Vivien Roubaud’s practice explores the poetic and unexpected potential of everyday technical objects. Through assemblages, mechanisms and carefully staged physical phenomena, he shifts familiar materials away from their usual functions, allowing them to become fragile, unstable and often surprising situations. His work moves between sculpture, engineering and performance, revealing the invisible forces, rhythms and failures that shape our relationship with technology.

Urban Societies is a Brussels-based nonprofit curatorial platform founded and curated by Sébastien Ricou. Its name is an anagram of his own, reflecting a personal yet open-ended approach to contemporary art through exhibitions in shifting locations. Rooted in context and dialogue, each project evolves freely in form, tone and intention.
The Smoking Room (June 2025–January 2027) is an Urban Societies exhibition series on the cigarette, staged in the smoking room of Le New Touquet, a bar in Saint-Gilles, before Belgium’s smoking-room ban.
