Bryce Delplanque’s work explores figurative pictorial vocabulary, focusing on notions of reproduction and appropriation of images. As a painter, he considers images to be his primary medium. Painting enables him to understand what he is looking at and what it means. The mechanics of looking at things interests him above all when it leads to a dehierarchization of genres, of the cultural object and the popular object. His paintings, though varied in form and technique, testify to a pleasure in the order of things. He seeks to reappropriate the image of the outside world by creating copies, but without adhering strictly to them.
