Nicholas Bierk
Distinguished by his everyday still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, Canadian artist Nicholas Bierk (b. 1985, Peterborough) presents more than 10 new oil paintings in his solo show at Gladstone. Drawing inspiration from personal photographs, the works capture moments from the artist’s life that hold symbolic meaning and reflect universal themes he’s been exploring in the last few years, including death, grief, and transformation, among others. The exhibition is presented in a veiled and obscured narrative format that invites viewers to interpret how the compositions relate to each other and to themselves.
