“The permutation of light and darkness: this theme, addressed in 1999, expresses the foundation and meaning of my work. Like many of my colleagues, I’m challenged by the passage of time. I believe, however, that our experience can be translated into a single day. Time is not an ordered sequence. It is relative to each individual. Sunrise and sunset, hope and sadness, light and darkness: this is the real substance of our lives. In my work, I use wood panels, plaster, gold leaf and gem powder. I use techniques such as egg tempera, scraping and polishing, among others. By these means, I’ve tried to express the contrast between light and darkness. It is a work of patience that requires a lot of time. A patient process of stratification is engaged, which in itself is not a constraint for me, but rather an expression of time hidden in my work. Also, through the Japanese technique of urushi (lacquer) and other means, I have tried to express pure beauty. My desire is to express universal light and darkness. Expression of our joy and fear, confronted as we are with life and death. I draw everything imbued with the spirit of both East and West. It is the art of the medieval icon, the ancient Buddhist mandala and the Japanese screen. Not in the divergence of these many cultures, but rather in an attempt at synthesis that also sums up my career. At present, it’s movement that interests me: color, surrounded by a dynamic frame.” - Sei Arimori

Frédérick Mouraux Gallery is an international gallery dedicated to contemporary and modern art.
Frédérick Mouraux Gallery represents international contemporary artists. The gallery also promotes modern art.

The philosophy of the gallery is to be as close as possible to the artists of our time. The gallery also functions as a platform for the promotion of progressive, engaged, and innovative artists. Based on the belief that art can create more awareness and help positive change, the choice of artists goes to those with strong messages. The gallery maintains a diverse program with solo exhibitions by multiple generations of artists working in different media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and installation-based work.

Building on an experience and expertise of more than 30 years in the art world, Frédérick Mouraux uses his knowledge and passion to create a gallery that creates an open and personal relationship with the artists, collectors, art professionals and visitors. Frédérick Mouraux started his career in the art world in Italy, where he studied art history in Florence. In 1993, he moved to the USA to follow a Master’s degree at NYU and to work in Paul Kasmin’s contemporary art gallery. Passionate about art and always looking for contact with the artists of the present, he has built strong relationships with artists in New York, Paris and Brussels. He also gave courses on the art market at the IESA art university in Paris in Master 1 and 2. It is in Paris that Frédérick Mouraux organized contemporary art exhibitions from 2011 to 2016. He opened his contemporary art gallery in Brussels in 2018 in the Rivoli Building with two exhibition spaces.
