What Would You Like to Be for Dinner?
Nicolas Lambelet Coleman
Start 04 Sep 2025
End 04 Oct 2025

This solo exhibition of new paintings by Nicolas Coleman explores moments of daily life through the universal language of food. Inspired by a recent journey across the American South and scenes of familial gatherings, this series blends humour, warmth, and storytelling, inviting viewers to connect with shared cultural memories. About the artist : Nicolas Lambelet Coleman paints scenes that offer viewers a visual travelogue, blending snippets of personal narratives with an indulgence in fantasy. His informal and intuitive process with oil paints encourages viewers to closely inspect both subject and environment. Coleman’s paintings celebrate culture and place yet conceal deeper contrasts, exploring how surroundings influence emotions and identity. His recent residency at Black Rock in Dakar, Senegal, deepened his exploration of these themes, drawing from his experiences as a Black American raised in the southern United States and reflecting on cultural tensions and personal identity.

Founded in 2023, EDJI Gallery was born with a mission to challenge the conventions of traditional art galleries. After a series of itinerary exhibitions in Paris, London, and New York, the gallery established its permanent home in Brussels—a city we view as a forward-thinking pivotal center for contemporary art in Europe. Much like the spirit of our gallery, Brussels is charged with a creative energy that feels both restless and full of possibility. It’s a place where diversity, art, and innovation collide in exciting, unpredictable ways, making it the ideal setting for what we aim to build.

With a focus on ultracontemporary artists—those born after 1975—EDJI Gallery celebrates the diversity of voices redefining the art landscape today. Our program highlights artists tackling critical themes such as identity, gender, and societal change, creating work that speaks to the complexities of contemporary culture. Women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ artists are leading this new movement, driving not only a more inclusive and diverse art world but also reshaping the industry with a greater presence of marginalized voices.
