Maya de Mondragon
For her first solo exhibition in Brussels entitled Vanille, Maya de Mondragon presents a series of watercolor paintings on paper created between 2017 and the present, two sculptural works, and a sound piece resulting from an invitation to musician and composer Flavien Berger.
Through her practice, the artist creates a context and situations conducive to apparitions: painting shrugs off its responsibility to faithfully depict and slinks towards clairvoyance. Far from gestures of control, these works are collaborations: with water, color, surface, air, gravity, perception. Limbs, faces, and creatures emerge in an act of expanded pareidolia. Accidents, spills and splurges are not corrected: they are given solace. If Dr. Frankenstein brought life with lightning, Maya de Mondragon uses water and pigment to assemble hybrid forms and gentle monstrosities.
Maya de Mondragon (b.1987) lives and works in Brussels.

EDEN ISLAND is a newly established art project founded by Eden Krsmanovic.
The exhibition program was born last winter on the occasion of a group show titled “Furniture & Paintings” which brought together 18 artists from the Brussels art scene.
This year, she will present two individual exhibitions by emerging artists: Maya de Mondragon, opening her first major solo exhibition in Brussels during the Art Week and Quincy Langford, an American painter opening his first European solo show this winter.
For 2026, EDEN ISLAND is planning a very special project to be held during Art Brussels. Stay tuned!
